ADC picks Amamgbo for Anambra South senatorial by-election

The African Democratic Congress party has produced Donald Amamgbo as their candidate for the forthcoming senatorial by-election for the Anambra South Senatorial district.

Amamgbo emerged victorious at the ADC primary election held at Anyi Bu Ofu Social Hall, Mmili Kwu, Nnewi, on Saturday. The primary was supervised by the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

During the primary, the party members unanimously adopted Amamgbo as its sole candidate for the election through a motion moved by Ndukaba Chinedu from Orumba South Local Government Area and seconded by Anene Chukwudi from Ihiala Local Government Area following the stepping down of other aspirants.

In his victory speech, Amamgbo expressed gratitude to the various local government delegates for finding him worthy to be their sole candidate.

He said, “We shall storm Anambra South, and when we win, we will go to Abuja and bring your share of democracy dividends and good governance. I want to assure you that I will devote my time to serving you. Without you, I would not be standing here.

“I urged the party faithful to go to their various polling booths with their families and loved ones and vote for the ADC during the senatorial by-election.

“If elected to represent the people in the Senate, I will make a difference as well as serve the people with all my heart.

“Be rest assured that I will not disappoint you since you decided to select me. I am not a professional politician, but I decided to present myself to make a significant change because I am passionate about the welfare of this state. ”

He assured the people that he would make a good impact in the Senate even though the tenure that is being contested for is remaining one year, stressing that the important thing is to get somebody who can make an impact and who can stand firmly for the Anambra South senatorial zone.

Also addressing the party members, the state chairman of ADC, Patrick Obianyo, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of party members during the exercise and the way other aspirants stepped down for Amamgbo, saying that ADC has come a long way as the entire country will witness a new era.

He said, “Nigeria as a country has gone into an economic quagmire and such prompted the formation of the ADC party by the people who have an interest in the country’s growth.

“ADC as a party would salvage this country. It is a party people should be proud of. This is the first time Anambra South district is testing a new candidate who has integrity to fly the ADC Party flag.”

Also speaking, a member of the Board of Trustees of ADC, Godson Okoye, testified that the primary election was in accordance with the party’s constitution, saying that ADC would definitely emerge victorious in the Anambra South district in the bye election.

Okoye said his message to the Anambra South district is a message of goodwill.

The ADC candidate is vying to contest the Anambra South Senatorial seat left vacant as a result of the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, a series of by-elections have been fixed for Saturday, August 16, 2025, to fill vacant seats in the National and State Assemblies across 12 states.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made the announcement during a meeting with political party leaders in Abuja on June 26.

Yakubu explained that the vacancies arose from resignations, deaths, and court-ordered annulments.
