Tinubu Orders Service Chiefs to Be Proactive and Deliver Tangible Results

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a strong directive to Nigeria’s Service Chiefs, urging them to be “proactive, decisive, and results-driven” in tackling the nation’s escalating security challenges.

The president gave the charge during a closed-door meeting at the State House, Abuja, attended by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, alongside the Chiefs of Army, Navy, and Air Staff, and the Inspector General of Police.

According to a statement from the presidency, Tinubu emphasized that excuses will no longer be tolerated, stressing that Nigerians deserve visible improvements in safety across all regions. “Security must not be reactive; it must be preventive. Nigerians are tired of promises — we need outcomes,” the president reportedly told the military hierarchy.

Tinubu also directed the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, to coordinate intelligence-sharing mechanisms among agencies and ensure operational synergy in volatile areas like the North-West, North-Central, and South-East.

Security experts have applauded the president’s assertive tone, saying it signals a shift from bureaucratic management of insecurity to performance accountability. However, critics warn that without improved funding, logistics, and welfare, the military may struggle to meet such ambitious expectations. The meeting comes amid renewed bandit attacks in Kaduna and Zamfara, as well as oil theft in the Niger Delta. Analysts say Tinubu’s directive could define his administration’s legacy in restoring peace and national stability.
